More than 200 students gathered on the Shouse Lawn on Wednesday for the Fall Student Resource Fair, connecting with University offices, student organizations, and other resources available to support them throughout the academic year. The fair featured 17 tables representing approximately 25 University organizations, offices, and student clubs.

The fair was part of Welcome Week and marked the first Student Resource Fair held as Mass General Brigham University of Health Professions. Students had the opportunity to learn about campus resources, connect with representatives from across the University, meet fellow students, and discover opportunities to get involved in the University community.

“This was our first Welcome Week Student Resource Fair as Mass General Brigham University of Health Professions, and it didn’t disappoint,” said Ronan Campbell, Department Coordinator and Project Specialist in the Office of Student Affairs and Services. “Thanks to a robust social media campaign, engaged students and their leadership efforts, as well as dedicated internal and external resources, we were able to connect with well over 200 students today.”

For students new to the University, the fair provided an opportunity to become more familiar with the people, programs, clubs, and services available to the them, along with ways to get involved as the new academic year gets underway.

Mosaic, a new student club formed over the summer, was among the organizations introducing students to opportunities to connect and build community.

“Mosaic is like a brand new club we formed over the summer, and we know it’s kind of hard for students of color across programs to connect,” said Anais Smith, GC ’28. “So we’re trying to find one place where we all can meet each other and actually form a community.”

Students could also learn about the Language and Culture Alliance, a new club focused on language, culture, and supporting students who want to better serve bilingual and multilingual patients.

“Language and Culture Alliance is also a pretty new club, mainly formed by students that either speak another language or are hoping to learn their native language a little bit better, or who just speak English and just want to serve patients that are bilingual or multilingual as best as they can,” said Sara Latif, GC ’28.

For students participating in club leadership, the fair offered a convenient way to discover these organizations and other resources in one place.

“It’s been so helpful. Extremely helpful,” said Smith. 

“I’m signed into a couple of clubs on Instagram, and I’m getting so many follow requests already," added Latif. "So, it’s been maybe the most helpful thing for us for visibility.”

“This is totally helpful. It’s a good way to know what resources are available and to connect with other students as well, because a lot of us just started this semester,” said Marta Borrego Mahiques, DEN ’29. “It’s just cool to know what is around and available to students - and nice to get the goodies as well.”
